The Episode I Almost Didn’t Make-Stay Till The End

This week's episode is a little different — and honestly, a little vulnerable for me. After ten years and more than 400 episodes of Slow Style Home, I'm pulling back the curtain on what it's really taken to create this podcast, and why I've decided to make a significant change. I've always believed that what we choose to surround ourselves with reflects what we truly value, and lately I've been turning that same lens on my own work. I've reached a point where I need to ask an honest question: Is what I'm creating something you value enough to support? So I'm shifting to a mostly paid model — not as a sales tactic, but as a way to align my work with what it's actually worth and to connect more deeply with the people who genuinely feel that pull toward creating a meaningful home. This isn't about pressure or persuasion. It's about making an intentional choice (the same kind I talk about all the time) and finally being willing to stand behind the value of what I've built.

This has never been about adding more noise to the world. It’s always been about helping you create a home that feels meaningful…on your terms.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

This week's episode is different. Not in format, not in topic exactly — but in what it required of me to say out loud. I've been sitting with this for a while, and I think it's time to share it with you.

Ten Years of Showing Up

I started Slow Style Home because I believe, deeply and without apology, that beauty matters. That our homes shape how we feel when we wake up in the morning, how we move through our days, how we see ourselves. That what we choose to live with is never really just about décor — it's about identity, intention, and what we believe we deserve.

Over the past ten years and more than 400 episodes, that belief has only grown. I've spent countless hours studying design principles, questioning industry norms, and exploring the cultural, emotional, and even environmental layers behind the way we make our homes. This podcast has never been about adding more noise. It's always been about helping you create a home that feels like you — on your terms.

What You Don't Always See

Here's the part that doesn't make it into the episodes.

Behind every conversation, every deep dive, every carefully considered idea — I'm also the marketer, the strategist, the editor, the producer. I'm constantly working to earn and hold your attention in a world that is absolutely overflowing with content. And if I'm being honest, that's exhausting.

There's a real tension between wanting to create thoughtful, nuanced work and needing to package it in a way that competes with everything else out there. I've done my best to strike that balance without watering things down. But it comes at a cost — one I've been absorbing quietly for a long time.

The Question I've Been Avoiding

This is the part that's hardest to say.

What I do has value. Not just because of the time and effort that goes into each episode, but because of the impact it's had. I've heard from so many of you who feel more confident in your homes, more at ease in your spaces, more connected to your own sense of style because of this work.

And yet, giving it away for free has allowed me to avoid a deeper, more uncomfortable question: Do I actually believe my work is worth paying for?

That question sat with me for a long time before I was willing to answer it honestly.

Our Homes Reveal What We Value — And So Does Everything Else

One of the ideas I return to again and again is this: what we spend our money on is a reflection of what we truly value. Not what we say we value — but what we actually choose.

We see it in our homes all the time. The pieces we invest in. The things we hold onto for years. The trade-offs we make — choosing a smaller home in a neighborhood that feels right, or prioritizing one meaningful object over a shelf full of things that don't move us.

Our homes are full of these decisions. And I've started applying that same lens to my work — and to myself.

A Season of Transition

I'm in a turning point, personally and professionally. Like so many of us, I'm thinking about what the next chapter looks like — what I want the next ten years of my life and career to actually feel like. And part of that is getting honest about what's working and what isn't.

I can't keep doing things the way I've been doing them. More importantly, I don't want to.

This isn't a reactive decision. It's a thoughtful one. It's about aligning my work with my values and being willing to make a change, even when it feels uncertain — which, if I'm honest, it does.

What's Changing, and Why

So here's the shift: I'm moving the podcast to a mostly paid subscription model.

One free episode will still be released each month, but the rest will be available to paid subscribers. This isn't about creating pressure or putting up barriers. It's about understanding whether this work is something you truly value — because choosing to pay for something is one of the clearest ways we have of showing that.

For years, I followed the model of giving and giving, hoping it would eventually lead to something sustainable. And while that felt generous, it also kept me from asking for what I actually need. It kept me from standing behind the value of what I've built.

An Invitation, Not an Obligation

This change might mean a smaller audience. It might mean slower growth. And yes, that's a real risk.

But what I'm really looking for is connection — with the people who are ready to go deeper, who want to take action in their homes and in their lives, who already feel that pull toward creating something meaningful.

I can't convince anyone that a beautiful, intentional home matters. But I can show up fully for the people who already know it does.

If you choose to continue with me in this next phase, I'm genuinely grateful. And if this isn't the right fit for where you are right now, that's okay too. This isn't about guilt or persuasion. It's about choice — the same kind of slow, intentional choice I talk about all the time.

We all get to decide what we value. This is me deciding to honor mine.
